One day workshop on Interpersonal Skills

The Department of Management Studies organised a One   Day   Workshop on “Interpersonal Skills” for the students of management studies. The event was conducted on 22nd August 2019, Thursday, at H. K. E. Society’s S. L.N. College of Engineering campus.

The workshop was planned with an aim of providing personal development skills to the students of management studies, for whom, presentation skills are of utmost importance. The workshop was planned to have two sessions with two speakers.

The workshop began with welcoming of guests to the venue, i.e., seminar hall. The guests and the head of the department were welcomed on the dais by the students of MBA. The guests were Shri. Basawaraj, Development Officer, LIC and JCI Trainer, Raichur, Shri Vijay Mahantesh, President of JCI Raichur along with the team of JCI. The workshop was inaugurated by the guests and the Head of the Department Prof. Amaresh Patil.

The speaker for the first session was Shri. Basawaraj. He emphasized on how communication is more than just words and what role does it play for a management degree holder. Shri. Basawaraj shared techniques of effective communication with students from listening to understand;  observation;  retention;  non-verbal  communication;  being  clear  and  succinct; being empathetic and many more such techniques and thoughts. He explained the need for messages to be concise, logical, engaging and action driven. Importance and effect of brevity was also discussed as a major part of the workshop.

During the second session Shri. Vijay Mahantesh spoke on communication with different types of people and the concept of “Target Audience”. Having strong work ethics, professionalism, and power to inspire others and resolving conflicts, being tactful and respectful paves way for working as a team. Team work helps in applying the collective intellect and adding value to work, thus making the results more authentic and reliable. Team spirit plays an important role in any industry that we take for example.

The team of JCI conducted a few games for MBA Students in order to depict, visualise and experience team building. These activities gave the idea of performance as a team to the students and helped them in learning about how to improve the performance as a team. These activities were planned with an intention to acquaint the students with the pros and cons of working as a team. The coordination was the essence of the team work. This was thoroughly understood by the students through these activities.

At the end of the workshop the trainer asked all the students to introduce themselves and guided the effective way of self introduction. And he motivated the students to be ambitious and work efficiently towards their career goals. All the staff members of the department-Prof. Bhagyalakshmi R, Prof. Sohan Chooudhry, Prof. Sharanagouda Malipatil and Prof. Santosh Kumar, were present in the workshop for supporting the students, throughout the day.
